Fernie Chamber AGM event, Tuesday, April 21 

 

The Fernie Chamber of Commerce 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM), took place on Tuesday, April 21 at the Fernie Senior Citizens Drop-In Centre. 

This annual gathering brought together members of the business community to connect, hear updates, and take part in conversations shaping Fernie’s future. The morning included a complimentary and generous breakfast catered by Freshies Café, networking, and reflections on the Chamber’s 2025 milestones, along with a look ahead to 2026 priorities.

 

Board Chair Antony McElwee and Executive Director Wendy McDougall presented the annual report, highlighting organizational progress and continued efforts to support a strong and resilient local economy. 

 

This year’s AGM also featured two keynote speakers: 

  • Jeremy Johnston, Director of Planning & Development Services with the City of Fernie, updated us on the Official Community Plan process and the upcoming spring launch of digital planning approvals to enhance development in Fernie. 

 

  • Katey Taylor, Executive Director of Elk Valley Family Society, shared an overview of essential housing services and updates on key projects, including the Old Firehall redevelopment and the Childcare Housing Project.

In the spirit of community support, the Chamber waived registration fees for this year’s AGM. Attendees were encouraged to bring a donation for the Fernie Food Bank. A total of 83 pounds of food were collected and will help support our community
