Fernie’s Favourite Winter Festival Returns March 6–8, 2026

The Fernie Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the return of Fernie’s most beloved winter tradition, the 49th Annual Griz Days, taking place March 6–8, 2026.

For nearly five decades, Griz Days has celebrated the resilience, pride, and unmistakable mountain spirit that define Fernie. Through fires, floods, economic shifts, and even a global pandemic, this community has stood strong and Griz Days continues to bring residents and visitors together to honour the legendary Griz with music, parades, competitions, and local hospitality.

We respectfully acknowledge that the Fernie Chamber of Commerce office and all Griz Days events take place on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Ktunaxa Nation.

2026 Theme: Nordic Ice – The Viking Winter

This year’s theme invites the community into a bold and immersive winter world inspired by Nordic folklore and Viking might. Nordic Ice: The Viking Winter blends Norse legend with Fernie’s own mountain myth of the Griz – think fur cloaks, firelight, shields, icy sculptural art, and a celebration of courage and camaraderie in the heart of winter. Attendees are encouraged to dress the part, from braided hair and rustic tunics to horned helmets and Nordic-inspired storefront décor. Whether you’re building a parade float, styling your shop window, or outfitting the whole family, this is the year to lean in and have some fun.

Community Impact

Griz Days draws over 3,500 attendees across three days of downtown fun, boosting winter tourism and supporting local businesses. Managed by the Fernie Chamber of Commerce with community partners, the festival stays true to its grassroots roots. Huge thanks to Mountain Luxe Lifestyle Management’s Jessica Gamey and MJ Cursons for bringing fresh energy and excitement to Griz Days for a second year – this event wouldn’t be possible without their passion and dedication.

We extend our sincere thanks to our Title Sponsor, Crown Mountain, along with the Province of British Columbia’s Resort Municipality Initiative, the City of Fernie, Tourism Fernie, and our many generous sponsors and community partners who make this event possible.
