Fernie Chamber announces speakers for Housing Info Session
The Fernie Chamber of Commerce is announcing the line-up of speakers for the Housing Information Session being hosted as part of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in-person event on Thursday 21 April. Celebrating 120 years since incorporation, the Fernie Chamber is excited to return to an in-person format at the Cast Iron Grill (Fernie Golf Club) after two years of virtual AGMs.
Recognizing the rising level of concern and urgency around attainable workforce housing in our community, the Fernie Chamber is pleased to be able to host a Housing Information Session for its members after the conclusion of the formal business of the AGM. The speaker line-up will be as follows:
- Fernie presentation from Gayle Vallance (President, Fernie Family Housing Society)
- Employee Tenant Agreement presentation by Derrick Murphy (Lawyer, Fairley & Blakley)
- Invermere presentation from Pete Bourke (Executive Director, Columbia Valley Chamber) & Theresa Wood (Business Recovery Advisor, Columbia Valley Chamber)
- Tofino presentation from Ian Scott (Executive Director, Tofino Housing Corp)
- Revelstoke presentation (speaker TBC, Community Futures Revelstoke)
Tickets for the Fernie Chamber AGM & Housing Information Session are available now at www.ferniechamber.com and will include a full hot breakfast and networking opportunities. Tickets must be purchased in advance and ticket sales close one week prior to the event on Thursday 14 April. This is to ensure adequate notice of numbers for catering purposes.
Brad Parsell (Executive Director of the Fernie Chamber) explains, “We are so excited to return to in-person programming and what better way than with our AGM celebrating this amazing milestone of 120 years since our incorporation in 1902 as the Fernie Board of Trade. Instead of featuring a traditional keynote speaker this year, we felt that bringing together a line-up of speakers to share information about current housing initiatives both here in Fernie and around the province would be of keen interest to the Fernie business community as we collectively look at ways to address this challenging situation.”
The full agenda is included below for the AGM & Housing Information Session event. The Fernie Chamber would like to thank our generous sponsors NWP Coal, Patti’s Party Tent Rental, Fernie Fox Hotel, and Island Lake Lodge. Please note that only members in good standing will be able to vote during the formal part of the AGM, but the event is open to all interested parties in the general public.
