Member Spotlight | Gabbi Escobar Photography

Meet Fernie Chamber Member Gabbi Escobar Photography. This is Gabbi’s third year full time in the photography business but she has been into photography for around 11 years.  Her business is all about digital and film photography. Into the digital world, she has been doing family and individual portraits, connecting with people through their stories and activities, which has been very gratifying for her during the past year. Into film photography, she runs a film lab that provides developing, digitizing and digital restoration services. Just like in the old days, with the digitize bonus.

Q: What’s one thing – industry related or not – you learned in the last month?

A: I have learned that saving memories from great experiences is priceless. I have been developing 35mm rolls that people forgot they had saved years ago, most of them expired, but still good enough to bring back happy moments after 15 to 20 years. There is a sort of unexpected factor that adds more to the reward of processing film.

Q: What do you love most about your industry?

A: I love so many aspects of it. The best part is that photography is a very versatile tool. I have been using it from a researching perspective for personal projects, to documenting lifestyle, and there is not a right or wrong way to do it, there are just different ways to do it, there is simply no limit for it.

I love that  film photography can be more experimental than I ever imagined. From double exposures created by two different photographers and cameras, to submerge film in tea or water with different herbs to create crazy artistic looks. I love experimenting and not being afraid of the results.

Q: What is one thing people may not know about your business?

A: People may not know that I am offering a ‘Film Photo Experience’ one on one workshops that cover from the very basics of film photography, to what type of film to use and what to expect from it, and if they don’t have a film camera I can provide them with a point and shoot, inexpensive, pocket camera.

People also may not know that I am very into conservation and restoration of old photographic material, old cameras, alternative techniques, and all related to historical photography.

Q: How do you define success?

A: I see success every single time I get to turn on that mental switch that tells people to appreciate every moment in life and not to take for granted saving memories of good times.

Q: What are you most excited about in the future?

A: I am very excited about different projects, future exhibitions; and keep growing with my film photo lab. I am expanding to weddings where guests have a point and shoot film camera to immortalize all the candids.  Also hope to get to a bigger audience. And I have a new website: https://allchromes.com/
