Advocacy

One of the primary functions of the Fernie Chamber of Commerce is to represent and advance the interests of the local business community. We are the largest business association in the Elk Valley representing approximately 300 member businesses and organizations. The Fernie Chamber advocates for local businesses by voicing your concerns to local, provincial and federal governments policy makers.

The Fernie Chamber board of directors maintains a standing Advocacy Committee to collate the concerns of businesses and present policy positions back to the board for formal adoption. If a bylaw, policy or initiative of government is getting in the way of doing business or you see opportunities for local economic development – the Advocacy Committee wants to hear from you!

Once a policy position is formally adopted by the Fernie Chamber, we get to work advocating and raising awareness. For local issues, we can present policy positions or suggestions straight to the City of Fernie or the Regional District of East Kootenay. For provincial or federal issues, the Fernie Chamber is a member of the BC Chamber caucus and votes in policy resolution debates at the BC Chamber AGM each year in May.

Businesses know what is good for businesses, not governments. Join us as we work together to make Fernie a friction-less and desirable place to do business – now and into the future!
