The Workforce Rental Housing Business Plan (the Plan) aims to deliver an investment-ready business plan to construct and operate rental housing for Fernie’s tourism, hospitality, and service-oriented workers.

When will the project take place and what does it involve?

The project will be completed from Spring to Fall 2024 and is divided into three phases, described below.

Who is leading the project?

The Fernie Chamber of Commerce is leading this project with support from project partners, the City of Fernie and Tourism Fernie. Employers and employees will also play a key role in contributing to this project. The Fernie Chamber has engaged New Commons Development Inc. and Urban Matters CCC Ltd. to deliver the services outlined in the business plan. New Commons is a non-profit real estate development company specializing in affordable housing, will lead the development feasibility assessment, while Urban Matters, a leading social enterprise, will lead the engagement process and research into funding and operational models.
