VISITOR SERVICES COORDINATOR
Qualifications
o Above average interpersonal, communication and customer service skills required
o Strong administrative skills, computer and internet applications and search skills are required
o Experience with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Office/Works, Microsoft Outlook email programs and Excel. Desktop publishing and web experience an asset
o Strong organizational skills are required
o Ability to work independently and availability to work weekends/evenings when required
o Merchandising and retail experience an asset
o Self motivated, enthusiastic, dependable and works well in a team environment
o Superior knowledge of the Fernie community, Elk Valley and area – including tourism and leisure activities and general familiarity with the Fernie business community
o Proactive approach to enhancing Visitor Services in general and the visitor arrival experience in particular
o Successful candidate must successfully complete the Tourism BC Visitor Councilor training certification program, Chamber to cover training costs
Responsibilities
Visitor Centres:
(The Fernie Chamber of Commerce manages 2 visitor info centres in Fernie, one on hwy 3 at the Chamber of Commerce and one downtown at the Fernie Museum)
• Address public enquiries at the counter, by phone, email or fax at Hwy 3 centre
• Serve visitors in a courteous, friendly manner
• Maintain fresh supply of visitor’s guides and brochures, track incoming and outgoing inventory, ordering brochures and guides when needed at both centers
• Maintain visitor centre and information racks in a clean and orderly state
• Collect and compile visitor statistics, submit monthly to TBC
• Summer student supervision (July- August)
• Ensure storage room maintained in safe and orderly manner on an ongoing basis
• Attend community events committee meetings as required
• Information packages assembled and distributed as required for visitors, intending visitors, intending new residents, businesses, trade shows etc.
• Membership directories regularly kept up to date, working with Membership Services Coordinator, add new members info, remove expired info, keeping directories current
• Maintain public washrooms in a clean and orderly manner on an ongoing basis, monitor and order necessary supplies as required
• Visitor Services Report/visitor stats reports for both centres submitted monthly to Chamber Manager
General Office Duties and Chamber Administrative support:
• Answering phones, taking messages
• Photo copying
• Email, fax, filing
• Chamber functions/program support when required
• Assist with special events when required
• Other general office duties as assigned
Reporting Structure: This position reports directly to the Chamber Manager.
Other details:
Full-time position, 40 hours/week, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, from September to June; and as scheduled during July and August, including weekends as required.
